Catholics join popular and iconic traditional pilgrimage in Western Canada

Catholics from Winnipeg, and other parts of Manitoba and Saskatchewan will be taking part in the annual Catholic pilgrimage to Welwyn between Friday, September 4th and Monday, September 7th, 2015.

The popular Catholic pilgrimage is organized by Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 478 McKenzie Street, Winnipeg and Our Lady of Fatima Church in Welwyn, both under the priestly care of the Society of St. Pius X.

This is the 14th year the Priestly Society of St. Pius X will be organizing the pilgrimage in Western Canada. Hundreds of pilgrims from across the prairies have taken part in this iconic and notable pilgrimage among Catholics in both provinces. It has become one of the most well established traditional Catholic pilgrimages in Western Canada.

Pilgrims will walk 32 km in two days (Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th).

The pilgrimage will start on Friday, September 4th at 7.00 p.m. with the Traditional Latin Mass at 7.00 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima, Welwyn, followed by a potluck dinner. On Saturday, September 5th, the walking will start with Traditional Latin Mass. After the Blessing of the Pilgrims they will leave Welwyn for Bear Creek at 9:30 a.m., and start the pilgrimage at 10:20 a.m. walking for 16 km., with two spiritual talks by a priest during breaks.

Fr. Boulet, SSPX, prior of Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church and organizer of the pilgrimage, said:

This pilgrimage will be a wonderful opportunity for Catholics in Manitoba and Saskatchewan to pray and give thanks for the blessings received. This year, the reasons to attend this pilgrimage are not lacking."

He added:

A pilgrimage is a millenial Catholic custom. This traditional pilgrimage will help pilgrims to step out of themselves, strenghten their faith and encounter God, while sharing profound and beautiful moments, traditional prayers and hymns all the way. It will be an unforgetable and edifying experience."
